Introduction

In June 2022, Bamboo Rock joined our "Accessible Cities South Africa" platform to help promote accessibility and inclusivity for persons with disabilities in South Africa by bringing people with a disability and organisations together through skills development, life skills and business training, access auditing, reasonable accommodation assessments and a rigorous project management approach.Bamboo Rock Access Warrior - 2023

DiSA would like to congratulate and thank Bamboo rock for joining our "Accessible Cities South Africa" platform and for becoming an "Access Warrior" to assist us to create this much needed awareness and change.

Bamboo Rock is a project management company that has been in operation for 16 years and specialise in universal access and disability. Bamboo Rock was established to address a need in South Africa for an organisation that focused on bringing people with a disability and organisations together through skills development, life skills and business training, access auditing, reasonable accommodation assessments and a rigorous project management approach.

In September 2023, Bamboo Rock renewed their Membership with DiSA and has been an active member for the last 2 years, by not only assisting us with various queries regarding Universal Access Design that we receive through our Accessible Cities platform. Together we will continue to work with other Access Warriors, to break down barriers, so that we can all take part equally in society.

Bamboo Rock & DiSA Partnership

Disability info South Africa (DiSA) was started in 2015 by Alan Downey when he realised that there was still an urgent need for a free information service to assist and support persons with disabilities and their families. Through the support over the years from various companies and organisations such as the Bamboo Rock, we have been able to create a link between persons with disabilities and the companies, clubs and organizations that are available to assist them.

Over the years, DiSA identified a need to become more than an Information and Support Service but also provide platforms to help Identify, Address and Remove barriers to help create an inclusive, accessible South Africa.

With this in mind, we have approached various essential service providers such as Bamboo Rock to join us and other Access Warriors in this journey to "Light a way to an Inclusive Society!"

Bamboo Rock provides a wide variety of services including but not limited to Universal Access Consulting Services and Audits;  Project Management of Projects for People with a Disability; Universal Access Training and Website Audits to ensure that persons with disabilities are not excluded from society and to ensure professionals in the built environment are educated correctly. By listing there service below and promoting them through our Videos and Webinars along with other Access Warriors, we aim to ensure that all the pieces of the puzzle are in place and we work together to provide a complete accessible solution to enable all persons with disabilities to participate equally in society.

Current and Future Plans

Only through inclusive environments can some persons with disabilities take part equally in society. "An impairment is any temporary or permanent loss or abnormality of a body structure or function, whether physical or psychological". According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the "White Paper on the rights for persons with disabilities", "Disability is imposed by society when a person with a physical, psychosocial, intellectual, neurological and/or sensory impairment is denied access to full participation in all aspects of life, and when society fails to uphold the rights and specific needs of individuals with impairments."

With this in mind, we at DiSA aim to continue to create awareness for the creation of inclusive environments through partnerships with Access Warriors such as Bamboo Rock. We will continue to promote their services that they supply through our Accessible Cities Platform and create awareness for the needs of accessible and inclusive environments through our YouTube Videos, interviews and webinars, highlighting the benefits of using Universal Access Consultants during the design phase to ensure that no persons with disabilities, are excluded from society.

Accessible environments are so much more than just a ramp, only through the services that companies and organizations such as those that Bamboo Rock provide, can we truly create environments free of barriers. No company, organisation or person is an island, we all need to work together to promote real change for this to happen - This is our goal as Access Warriors!
