Casa iLanga Guest House & DiSA Partnership

Disability info South Africa (DiSA) was started in 2015 by Alan Downey when he realised that there was still an urgent need for a free information service to assist and support persons with disabilities and their families. Through the support over the years from companies and clubs such as the Paws4life Training Academy, we have been able to create a link between persons with disabilities and the companies, clubs and organizations that are available to assist them.

Casa iLanga Guest House

The Casa iLanga Guest House is located in a safe and tranquil neighbourhood in Somerset West, the intimate “House of Sun” guesthouse is nestled close to the impressive Helderberg mountains on one side and the wide open beaches of False Bay on the other.

The owner of Casa iLanga is 53 year young lady Geertje. After doing voluntary work in Zambia and an overland trip from Cape Town to Vic Falls she fell in love with South Africa. Waiting for many years she turned her dream into a true story. As a caretaker in Belgium it was logical to do something with that background. And so was Casa iLanga born. A wheelchair friendly guesthouse.

Casa iLanga has recently been completely renovated, boasting a modern and elegant ambience with a touch of contemporary African décor in all five bedrooms.

Apart from now being fully accessible by wheelchair, Casa iLanga has also been tastefully transformed to accommodate guests with special needs in all en-suite rooms, leisure spaces and communal areas.

Casa iLanga is only 30 km from Cape Town International, about 10 minutes’ drive from the world-famous Cape Winelands, and right next to the N2 national road to the Garden Route.

We take pride in ensuring that our guests all leave with wonderful memories of their stay in Somerset West.

Current and Future Plans

Only through inclusive environments can some persons with disabilities take part equally in society. "An impairment is any temporary or permanent loss or abnormality of a body structure or function, whether physical or psychological"
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the "White Paper on the rights for persons with disabilities", "Disability is imposed by society when a person with a physical, psychosocial, intellectual, neurological and/or sensory impairment is denied access to full participation in all aspects of life, and when society fails to uphold the rights and specific needs of individuals with impairments."

With this in mind, we at DiSA aim to promote inclusive environments through partnerships with Access Warriors such as The Casa iLanga Guest House, we will promote their Guest House and services through our Accessible Cities Platform and future Accessible Cities Travel Website, whereby we use the 4 Pillars of DiSA to ensure that persons

Accessible environments are so much more than just a ramp, only through the services that companies and organizations such as The Casa iLanga Guest House provide, can we truly create environments free of barriers. No company, organisation or person is an island, we all need to work together to promote real change for this to happen - This is our goal as Access Warriors!
